Run the Race

March 4th, 2009

running-feetYou can run on a treadmill all you want, but you’re not in the race till the road stretches out before you, the wind is in your face and the finish line lays somewhere unseen ahead.

Many of us talk a good game about what we are going to do when this happens or that happens or when we get so old or when this or that falls into place. Funny, though, how we never get around to doing most of what we plan to do “someday.” That day never comes and the rest of the world just runs right past us and we feel left out.

If I can encourage you in some way, if there is something you have been meaning to do, something you have dreamed of doing, no matter what it is, GO DO IT! Get off the treadmill of “I’m-a gonna!” and get on the road and run the race. The race is run when we hit the road and DO, not when we talk about DOING.

Lace up, dream big, and get in the race. You can do it.

This is fine to “Go do it” but how about when you don’t have any strength left and all of those things that you wanted to go to do are too hard to do because you are so sad that you don’t want to. Sometimes my sadness is too much to deal with and I don’t want to run. And why should I want to run when there is not any body to run with me or to watch me run.
you have a nice web site.

You’re right! You are aboslutely right with your thoughts! My story wasn’t meant to discount any of those very real aspects of depression and life. The intention was to encourage someone somewhere to take on what they have been wanting to do. You are right though, there are many times when you just can’t hardly take another breath, let alone run a race. Hang in there. The greatest journey and the longest walk each began with a single step. I’m thinking of you. D
