Man was I surprised!
My daughter and I had gone out to eat at a very nice restaurant about an hour from our home. As usual, we got our food and before we ate we stopped, bowed our heads and gave thanks for the food, our family, and we lifted them up in prayer, asking the Lord to continue to keep them and to bring us safely back together again.
We said “Amen” and prepared to eat, unfolding our napkins and placing them on our laps as the waitress approached with coffee and orange juice. She was almost beaming as she drew near to the table and I could see from her name tag that she apparently went by the name Nancy. She began pouring the coffee and in a very soft voice said, “You both have just made my day.”
Puzzled, I told her I was very happy about that but really didn’t know what she meant. She explained that for many years she had lived in the Lancaster Pennsylvania area and had become so used to seeing people praying when they sat down to eat. She went on to say that she almost never sees that up north and was so pleased to see the Lord being acknowledged in such a public way.
My friend, you never know who is watching and what they are thinking. Its just like this blog. I really don’t know who is reading it, who you are, or if it’s having some kind of impact on your life. If we go through life doing the next right thing, we may have some kind of positive impact on someone’s life. My daughter and I were praying because we truly believe it’s the right thing to do. It was the right thing for us. It’s meaningful to us. So what’s meaningful to you? Do you do it when no one is around? Do you do it when everyone is around even though it may not be popular but it’s the right thing? I guarantee if you take the harder road, that road less traveled, you will be encouraging someone somewhere who is battling something you probably don’t even know about. So do that next right thing and it’ll be right for you, and for someone else. You never know who’s watching. They just might need you. Don’t ever believe the lie that you don’t matter. You matter to someone, somewhere. They are looking, watching and waiting for you.
Nancy needed us and the demonstration of our faith, and we needed Nancy. Funny thing is, neither of us knew our lives would cross over a small breakfast table so many miles away from both our homes. Coincidence? I think not.
